With Eli Chen, Whettman Chelmets returns to the themes of last year's 1000 Faces EP through the concept of Jungian archetypes. Whereas before the themes were general, carried through the idea of the Hero with a 1000 Faces, here we find a solitary individual brought through a specific mythological gnostic travel through the archons and spaces above to bring themselves (and us) through the fullness of it all.

Primarily recorded on May 27, 2020, the album is primarily based on one spontaneous act of creation. Tracks were set up for field recordings, guitars, strings, and loops, but nothing beyond basic keys were conceived before hitting the record button. What you hear is the best example of the artist live, where notes are fed and built and looped and destroyed only to be rebuilt again. Some of the loudest and heavy and most beautiful post-rock influence can be heard here alongside his characteristic drone and ambient work. Eli Chen plays out through builds and crescendos and sheets of sound before collapsing into a solitary sound and fading away.
